ACS DR Responds

Albuquerque, NM KOB-FM 93.3 Collection

Keene, TX - Albuquerque, New Mexico radio station, 93.3 KOB-FM asked for help from New Mexico to help the survivors of Hurricane Ike.  A semi-tractor and trailer was donated by Jeff Bentley of Bentley's Auction Company.  Their company also donated the fuel and a driver to deliver the donated goods to the Adventist Community Services Disaster Response Depot in Keene, TX.  The ACS volunteers in Albuquerque, NM, under the direction of Sean Robinson, Adventist Community Services Director for the Texico Conference, along with many community volunteers, sorted the donations and packed them in the semi-trailer.  There was a great outpouring of generosity from the local community as the on air personalities did live broadcasts from the donation site.

The radio station asked for items such as:  baby diapers, baby wipes, food, pet food, toothpaste, tooth brushes as well as other toiletries and cleaning supplies.  They worked closely with Charlene Sargent, Adventist Community Services Disaster Response Coordinator for the Pacific Union Conference to make a list of the items that would be needed in the coastal area of Texas devastated by Hurricane Ike.  This made sure that the items donated would meet real needs.
The truck filled with the donated goods departed  Albuquerque at 1:00 PM Friday, September 19 to make the journey to Keene, TX, arriving at 2:00 AM Saturday, September 20.  Saturday afternoon volunteers from Southwest Adventist University, area Seventh-day Adventist
Churches and Master Guide Clubs worked on sorting and repacking the donated goods so it could be delivered to various distribution sites.  By 5:00 PM the donations we reloaded into a Texas ACS semi-trailer and early Sunday morning left for ACS Distribution Center in Beaumont, TX.  From this center the goods are being distributed to the survivors of Hurricane Ike.
The pet food was taken to Tarrant County Humane Society and Dallas SPCA,
as they are providing shelter for the pets of evacuees and they are in great need of food to feed these animals.
